Outcome summary
We drafted a manufacturer-independent hit-level scale and the bench procedure that defines it, as preliminary proposals. They have not yet been adopted.
Starting situation
Each manufacturer measures hit level on its own scale, and thresholds are set per brand. The same kick gives different numbers on different equipment, and the same threshold means a different physical impact.
The system
- A base proposal (October 2025): first make the hit level uniform across all approved systems, then set one official threshold table per category.
- A World Taekwondo Standard Hit Level scale from 0 to 100, independent of the manufacturer. Each certified system publishes a conversion from its own output, checked at certification, so thresholds are written once for everyone.
- A laboratory reference impact procedure that defines how the reference impacts are produced on the bench: standard impactor, controlled speed and environment, rig checks and records.
Implementation
The laboratory wrote the proposal and the reference procedure as part of its work for World Taekwondo.
Results and evidence
The drafts are preliminary and marked indicative. Some parameters are still to be confirmed experimentally.
After launch
They have not yet been adopted by World Taekwondo.
